"CH2O" seems to get invoked as a player in stratospheric chemistry.

It is the formula for formaldehyde.
It's a gas of little significance. CH 2 O concentrations were 0.399 and 0.410 ppbv for 0– 2 km, 0.250 and 0.355 ppbv for 2 –4 km, and 0.217 and 0.280 ppbv for 4 –8 km, respectively.
Those numbers say less than 1 CH2O molecule for every 2 billion molecules by volume. |

The Native American students just weren't getting it the first time, when it was time for the lecture about the Periodic Table of Elements.
The same presentation had been effective enough at the other community college.
But the puzzled looks, and the multiple questions revealed they weren't seeing the continuity.
The cultural bias of doing a lot of reading, starting at the top left, going across to the right, and then ASSUMING the continuity to the left end of the next line down.
The table was arranged like written text.
So, I started to draw a big spiral on the white board with hydrogen at the center.
That's when I got to see a bunch of students at once all get that delighted look of understanding.
The lecture went fine after that.
A few years later I started working on one at home that could be used as a teaching tool.
You can see it with five words entered into Google.
Chemistry teachers use it as a teaching tool.
Another special moment with those students came in the Natural History class.
When it was time for the lecture about Evolutionary Biology, they got it a whole lot faster than the students at the other college.
I think I was just a sentence or to into it.
I said, "All living organisms, every animal, plant, fungus, and microorganism are blood relatives descended from a single common ancestor."
That delighted look was already on everyone's face.
They had never been taught this before as science, but they knew it well as a fundamental truth known for generations.

An internet search on "Robert R Northup Biogeochemist" basically reveals that you live in Oakland. (Time: 17 seconds)

The oldest known rocks are just shy of 4000 million years old.
The earth itself is closer to 4700 million years old.
The oldest fossilized ecosystems are only slightly younger than the oldest rocks of any kind.
Banded iron formations, of the microbanded variety, were deposited in at least three distinct locations, as long ago as 3900 million years ago.
Banded iron formations of the microbanded variety are the fossilized remnants of photosynthetic communities, and ecosystem community succession between two different kinds of anoxygenic photosynthetic bacteria.
During periods of volcanic activity, the atmosphere was full of hydrogen. The most competitive photosynthetic communitiy was one that used hydrogen as reductant for anoxygenic photosynthesis.
When enough time without volcanic activity passed for the hydrogen to be depleted, the competitive advantage went to the photosynthetic community that used hydrogen sulfide as reductant for anoxygenic photosynthesis.
Back and forth, time and time again, leaving banded iron formations as the remnants of the sediments they deposited. |

It started with an accident.
IBM and ITN were discussing, to the best of their ability, natural selection of traits in animals.
ITN said, "..alligators, being amphibians, blah blah blah"
In a soon-following post IBM was asked if he believed that alligators are amphibians.
They are not, was IBM's assertion at the time.
In a days later later post, ITN was asked if he stood by the assertion that alligators are amphibians.
Yes, they are, according the resident science expert.
Then IBM was asked if he agreed that the assertion that alligators are amphibians is correct.
Yes, it was. Alligators are amphibians.
It was hideously funny.
Here is a piece of that high point in climate-debate.com history

You both had PLENTY of opportunity to acknowledge that alligators are amphibious ... but you both fight tooth and nail to portray alligators as NOT amphibious because they are reptiles.
What more should I expect from schizzos who believe that mangroves will save the ocean, or that the US government hires Putin to put our satellites into orbit, or that transporting sea water to the desert will terraform sand into fertile farms, or that people can teleport wherever using quantum entanglement?
... and now reptiles, such as alligators and snakes, somehow cannot be amphibious because they are reptiles.
You guys are geniuses. From now on, I take notes on everything you write.
I notice that neither of you have nary a peep for the images I present to you. You deny them because they are rather inconvenient. You want to claim that reptiles cannot be amphibious yet here you have images clearly showing amphibious reptiles ... so you descend into your word games and pretend the agreed-upon context for the discussion is the Wikipedia taxonomy.
Word games.
Would I be correct in assuming that you also deny that ducks are amphibious?
Would I be correct in presuming that you deny the amphibious nature of otters?
You guys didn't get very far in school, did you? You never learned what "amphibious" means and now you are too terrified to look it up.

An image search on your continuum graphic, as you demanded, reveals your name, Robert R. Northup, which you can see on the image. (Time: 14 seconds)
An internet search on "Robert R Northup Biogeochemist" basically reveals that you live in Oakland. (Time: 17 seconds)
An internet search on "Robert R Northup Oakland address" lists 4551 Fairbairn Ave, Oakland, CA without having to even click on any links. (Time: 6 seconds)
Google maps immediately comes up with THIS, indicating that you have a nice silver Lexus RX330, a Chevy 1500HD and a covered motorcycle. (Time: 5 seconds)
Anyway, anyone who is willing to spend a minute complying with your demands will learn at least this much about you.

No, science is not that.
From what I have learned here, science is not a LOT of things.
There is an incredibly long list of everything that science is NOT.
And the list just gets longer.
So, to clear up any confusion.
Everyone who thought that science IS doxing yourself now knows that they were wrong.
I did a poor job doxing myself in this case.
I haven't lived in Oakland since 2003.
But there must be some value to the discussion to have posted this, right?
I mean, it isn't SPAM, right?
So, it's okay. |

No moderator means no guard rails.
A conscious moderator would ban a member who repeatedly publishes personal private information about another member.

I kid you not; he's that much of a cry-baby.

For example, he demanded everybody look up graphic artwork that he created, that has his name on it. Robert provided all the information to find his "continuum" (which he was selling, but couldn't sell). Those who took him up on his demand learned his name.
A Google search immediately reveals his California address, cell phone carrier, his ads for tutoring at $25/hour, and myriads of associations with online organizations.
His address reveals Google street views of his apartment. A lookup reveals his cell phone number.
... and the kicker ... he wants you to blame me for his demand that everyone go out and learn more about him.

It sounds like IBdaMann had no choice in the matter.
He was forced to look up a graphic, and then take extra steps to enlarge it enough to see the name of the author.
At that point, he had no choice other than to do a search on that name, and publish everything he could find. "... and the kicker ... he wants you to blame me for his demand that everyone go out and learn more about him." - IBdaMann
When an Internet troll bullies so much that another member has no choice but to dox him.
Just look at what IBdaMann was forced to do.
And now he is being forced to make threats of publishing the phone number again (Branner deleted it last time in a very rare act of moderation), because... well, what choice does he have in the face of this kind of bully trolling?
Someone owes HIM an apology.

Why should IBDaMann apologize for YOUR problem?
