WHO WE ARE
GCIC is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing solutions that address climate change mitigation and adaptation. Our key approaches include amplifying and empowering innovative actions and solutions, harnessing and nurturing creativity and leadership of the next generation, and leveraging the power of education to build capacity and spread climate consciousness.
Since our inception, we have actively promoted global cooperation and sustainable development through various initiatives. These include the launch of the Global Climate Innovator Challenge, outreach effort for Earth Day, donation for Pakistan flood relief, high-level roundtable forum at the UN headquarters, series live climate roundtable, and engaging stakeholders from around the world in discussions on climate. We are honored to have had eight Ambassadors to the UN attend our luncheon event and spread awareness within their networks. Our live public events have attracted overall more than half a million attendees.
ABOUT THE CHALLENGE
The Challenge is a unique opportunity for changemakers across the globe to showcase their cutting-edge ideas and projects. Participants gain exposure to a global audience and stand a chance to attract potential investments and support from stakeholders in diverse sectors. This year, we are looking for innovative solutions or ideas (including but not limited to technology, product, business model, or approach) that can accelerate progress towards 1.5°C climate goal. We ask participants to choose one of the following five topics:
1) Affordable and clean energy (aligned with SDG 7)
2) Resilient social and economic infrastructure, sustainable industrialization (aligned with SDG 9)
3) Disaster risk reduction, sustainable transport, sustainable cities, and human settlements (aligned with SDG 11)
4) Sustainable consumption and production patterns, resource efficiency, pollution and wastes reduction, circular economy (aligned with SDG 12)
5) Other actions to combat climate change and climate impacts (aligned with SDG 13)
Join the Challenge and experience a multitude of benefits. By participating, you gain access to exclusive high-profile events, opening doors to influential networks and connecting with the climate Innovator community. As a finalist, you will receive acknowledgment from global climate leaders, prominent environmental organizations, and a respected group of climate specialists and investors. Why would anyone participate? If you have a project, which could score some grant money, why share? Somebody with better resources will just steal your idea, and free grant money. Certainly would let slip, my idea for a GMO CO2 capture/sequester tomato. Pest and environment tolerant, fast growing like a weed, and fruit the size of pumpkins. The seeds will be tolerant of the digestive system, and will quickly be distributed by birds and animals. Only need to release a few in the wild, and should spread quickly, in just a few years. A significant amount of CO2 will be consumed rapidly, with very little returned to the atmosphere. Well, unless some tomato-hater uses fire to destroy them... |

I thought it would be fun to enter the Climate-Debate squad in this challenge, so we could use their "challenge" for discussion topics, but I didn't want them checking up on us at Climate-Debate.com so I created a fictitious organization CLIMATE VANTAGE and applied us all to the challenge. I sent them the following email:

Team Climate Vantage is an international consortium of concerned scientists, engineers, mathematicians, businessmen and biogeochemists who feel that the topic of our acceleratingly changing Climate has been simply swept under the rug for far too long. Our governments have been flat-out ignoring this existential threat and have actively punished, even imprisoned, Climate innovators for merely voicing their genuine fears.
It is with great joy that we at Team Climate Vantage have learned of your Global Climate Innovation Center (GCIC), with whom we have high hopes of being able to freely share not only our concerns, but our innovative solutions as well. Because our primary goal is the free-flowing communication of ideas, we have never established any sort of website that will attract multitudes of denier trolls with the intention of shutting us down. Please use my email address (above) as the official point of communiqué.
As a team, we are able to theorize solutions that use real science to calculate practical solutions, that are fiscally feasible and sustainable, that use only environmentally friendly materials, that reduce our carbon footprint and that don't relegate our children to a tortured existence on Earth's anthropogenic deathbed. We have crafted several amphibious solutions based on reverse-engineering the atmospheric thermal enhancement that generated our landscape of moraines, which tells you that we are not afraid to draw innovation from direct observations of the last ice age. Our biogeochemists have been cited for decades for their work in carbon sequestration, without being given full credit, consoled only in the knowledge that future generations will be saved from a terrible fate.
Unfortunately, they have not responded whatsoever. I went to the portal and discovered this additional requirement that wasn't included in the announcement that was spammed onto Climate-Debate:
Requirement: fluent in Mandarin
Location: Work must be performed in or near 纽约, NY
I'm guessing that we're not getting into the challenge.
Disappointing. I think we'd kick butt and take names.
