Amusing, little scary story...
https://hackaday.com/2021/04/26/blocking-out-the-sun-viable-climate-countermeasure-or-absolute-madness/

The comments are crazy, after the story...

While the initial launch was solely to test out the balloon platform and would not deliver any test material to the atmosphere, the mission was nonetheless cancelled in the face of public dissent. The SCoPEx project has elected to undergo further public consultation in the meantime, in the hope to assuage fears, pushing back any potential launch until 2022 at the earliest.

The incident hints at the controversy around the very topic of geoengineering. Broadly, opinions fall into two camps. There are those that believe we should focus solely on reducing emissions, and that any alternative technologies are a distraction that don't help solve the root issues at play. Others believe that the world's slow progress at reducing emissions means that other solutions are desperately required in order to avoid the worst outcomes possible from climate change. Regardless of opinions in the broader public, research into the technology is beginning to pick up steam; the US government recently funded the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) with $4 million to research the concept.

These people are actually serious about doing this, and ready to roll with it. Whether they wait for public opinion to change, or just do it anyway, it's going to happen. They didn't spend all that money, just to throw it in the dumpster. They will give it a try first, before abandoning the idea.

Everytime I read one of these stories I feel inclined to dust off the graphic:

These people are nutters.

Dumb: "Let's switch our energy infrastructure over to solar power. It is renewable, will get us off of using dirty fossil fuels, and will save the Earth from the effects of catastrophic climate change!"
Dumber: "Good idea, Dumb! We should also block out the sun to reverse the effects of catastrophic climate change and save the Earth!"
Dumbest: "BLOCK THE SUN, SAVE EVERYONE! BLOCK THE SUN, SAVE EVERYONE!

Dumb: "Let's switch our gasoline vehicles over to electric vehicles so that we can get off of using dirty fossil fuels."
Dumber: "Good idea, Dumb! We can use electricity as a primary energy source instead of using those dirty fossil fuels that cause catastrophic climate change!
Dumbest: "FOSSIL FREE, SAFE WE WILL BE! FOSSIL FREE, SAFE WE WILL BE!"

Dumb: "Let's reduce atmospheric CO2 levels so that we can slow down the warming effects of catastrophic climate change."
Dumber: "Good idea, Dumb! How about we not half-ass it and remove ALL atmospheric CO2 to stop the effects of catastrophic climate change?"
Dumbest: "HEY HEY, HO HO, CO2 HAS GOT TO GO! HEY HEY, HO HO, CO2 HAS GOT TO GO!"

****ing morons...

Maybe covid, is actually just to get everyone into masks. Since what ever crap they spray in the clouds, will still fall down to earth, and accumulate in our lungs. This people are getting to be dangerous idiots.
