I've kept my mouth shut on the Floyd issue thus far. I haven't taken due diligence to sit down and study the incident...until now. My opinion... I don't give a squirt of piss about the color of Floyds skin, so let's eliminate race from the conversation right now. I also don't care to engage in the question of how he died. I don't think it matters. What I do care about is the safety of our peace officers. They're job is to enforce the law. Period. In my opinion, the only questions that matter are twofold... 1. Was Chauvin enforcing the law? 2. Were the actions taken to enforce the law reasonably justified? I must admit the media got to me and I have for quite some time felt that Chauvin was an idiot cop that was taking out unnecessary aggression on Floyd. Today was the first time I watched videos of the full incident. Not surprising there is a ton of footage you won't see unless you go looking for it. Floyd can be seen struggling with cops. Even with handcuffs in place, multiple officers are unable to get him into a squad car. Outside the squad car he continues to fight police. He is a continual menace to himself, the cops, and to the public until Chauvin restrains him with his knee. Now, I do get it. Any rational person, such as myself, has to question the necessity of additional restraint beyond hand cuffs. How much threat can one man be to multiple officers with his hands tied behind his back, right? I did some digging. All I need is one case to show my point. Yes, there are a few cops that are racists, but I think far worse are the ones that are on a power trip. They hide behind the badge and use the authority granted them to take out their childhood or bedroom frustrations on the general public. They are sick individuals that have no place in law enforcement and should be rooted out. This type of officer will only serve a tyrannical gov well. I did not see any of this behavior in the Chauvin Floyd incident. I've known and encountered hundreds of peace officers in my life. ALL have shown me respect, even when I didn't deserve it. One could have justifiably shot me. Thankfully he didn't. I have actually stared down the barrels of several service weapons, but that's a story from WAAAYYYY back 6 years ago when I was young and dumb.
