What is wrong with people these days? Even a small child learns about hot, burning things. Not sure if this is just something they do for fun in Kentucky, or it's nationwide.

These social media 'challenges' have been going on a long time. Some are insanely dangerous, with little chance some one isn't going to get hurt, specially people who aren't willing participants.

Seems to me, the social media sites, that allow this stuff, host the videos, should share in the responsibility. They can sift through the user data bank, and find Russian election-meddlers, why not find the individuals encouraging these dangerous pranks. Maybe it's the Russians...

Couple weeks ago, it was licking ice cream in the grocery store, and putting back on the shelf.

How stupid do you have to be, to believe that throwing boiling water on somebody is funny? I certainly isn't funny when we spill/splatter just a few drops on ourselves. I'd guess pretty much everyone has experienced some sort of burn, by the age of 6 years. Most of us are little slow, and still get burn occasional (remedial class). I've taken a few refresher courses myself, since I started 3D printing, nothing serious.

Certainly, there is some parental deficiencies. Sort of scary, since these same kids, will be entering the workforce in a few years, maybe even enter into politics eventually. Obviously, these kids are very easily manipulated. They have to know somebody is going to get hurt in these 'challenges', you they play along anyway.

Since my dad is from Norway, have only heard of Americans doing this. Ergo, it must be an American thing. Obama dared Trump to become president and he did.
There's actually footage of the exchange. If not for Obama, Trump wouldn't have accepted his dare. Or was it a double dog dare?

Lets put this Norway thing into perspective... How long have you lived in America? I'm fairly certain you are an American, by birth. Point is, you didn't just move here, past year or so, you've been an American your whole life, 50-60 years. I don't know why you write, from the perspective of a tourist. Maybe your dad kept you locked in the basement most of your adult life.

I don't know how many of these social media challenges are worldwide, some are though. I don't do social media anything, and it's just when I see news reports of people getting seriously hurt, or killed, do I see any of it. I mostly read the local news, national news, very little of the world news.

The point is that these silly challenges are nonstop, one gets to unpopular, another pops up in a week or two. Social media has the means to control terrorist activities, pedophiles, and few other illegal activities, like piracy. They already have the tools to detect these dangerous online games, and deal with those who promote them. I'm not sure how you convince someone to dump boiling water on somebody, just for fun. I don't think that way. The Knockout game a few years ago, was clearly a serious crime, just walk up to a complete stranger, and punch them in the face? Recording it, posting it online, indicates premeditation.

Harvey, I've been told that I am not an American and not even as good as a Mexican. Both my service connected hearing loss and my being 1/2 Norwegian are issues. Have you ever had a foreign accent? Americans don't like them.
I think most of my brothers don't mention it. Americans hate Scandinavians, you said you hate them because they're socialist countries. They have socialized healthcare which is as good or better than what we have in the US.

I like this, it's by Aetna. Norway's healthcare is ranked 11th in the world. If things work out for me, I might be able to ask Norway if they can help a former resident. And I'll even show your post saying that I should be thankful for whatever American doctors do to me because you fear that if I have surgery and can work again that your health insurance costs would go up.
https://www.aetnainternational.com/en/about-us/explore/living-abroad/culture-lifestyle/health-care-quality-in-europe-and-scandinavia.html

And Harvey, I had a neighbor who said the same thing you just posted. She discounted my being 1/2 Norwegian to discredit me. I let one woman I know that if my project works out and then if I am invited to Germany because it is a part of their history then people like you wouldn't be able to say that I haven't been discriminated against. Then I might be able to have a life in the US. Of course I could find out if other countries might value what I know more than the US does.
You need to remember, you don't find details important while I do. Yet I'm not as good as you.
And if you read about the challenge of boiling water then you'd know that an 8 year old girl in I think lived in Maryland died because she drank boiling water. That was a couple of years ago. Yet you singled out Kentucky where I live. I look at that as you taking a dig at me and saying that people like me who live in Kentucky must be stupid.

Whiner.

BTW, Norway isn't a socialist nation. It is largely capitalist (with the obvious exception of it's poor healthcare system).

It is strange though. People are against paying taxes but not for overpriced health care.
Harvey, check out Johnny Knox. He got rich doing stupid stuff. Lots of YouTube channels with content like that.

Noticed you avoided the citizenship question, again... Are you an American citizen, or not? For how long?

Accents don't bother, unless it's more of a speech impediment. Some people speak just fine, but struggle when they are trying to be deceptive. You, have trouble understanding, or articulating, kind of like customer service on the phone...

Far as I can tell, you cancer surgery went as planned. You survived, cancer-free, and functional. Would it have been better, not to have had the cancer removed? Not everyone goes nine years, without the cancer coming back. Not everyone survives surgery, you were lucky, should be grateful. You don't seem to understand the risks. Even if you find a doctor that agrees to perform any procedure you wish, doesn't mean it's going to workout as well as planned. You could die, or be in worse shape than you are now. There is always some risk, even with simple procedures, a gamble. It's worth the risk, if the option is a slow, painful death. Not so much, if the surgery is just for fun.

Kentucky was just the recent news story of a kid getting boiling water thrown on him by a friend, just for fun. You being from Kentucky, was just a bonus, would have posted the story anyway. I find these 'challenges' disturbing. Those 'kids' are plenty old enough to know right from wrong, and what is stupid dangerous. It's a behavioral problem that will follow them as adults, and taught to their children. We already have too many people screwed up, and a new crop, even worse, soon to be let loose on society. And as a bonus, we are moving toward universal legalization of recreational drugs. Marijuana is almost there already, the rest will probably follow quickly after.

You're trying to rationalize discrimination Harvey. Besides, people have been out to screw me over because of my hearing loss. Saying I'm 1/2 Norwegian doesn't help. It's a no win situation for me.
Citizenship doesn't make someone an American. It only means that a person has a legal right to live here. After that it means nothing. You've posted yourself that where the preamble to the constitution says the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness that a person doesn't have to be allowed to have those things in their life because people don't have those rights.
That's all being a citizen in the US means, you can live here legally but don't have the right to pursue your own life. Not if someone else doesn't want you to.
You should remember what you post.

Care to share links those posts? I don't think like that, and wouldn't right that crap either. You have the right to do anything you want with your, the constitution doesn't guarantee you will be successful. Freedom, isn't free handouts from the government. You are free to pursue your goals. Discrimination is subjective for the most part. Trump is currently being accuse of being racist, and discrimination. I don't believe that's the case, he doesn't take crap off anyone, no one gets special consideration. He treats whit people exactly the same as anyone else, it's just not a big deal, because the are white. Same goes for men and women, he doesn't give women special consideration over gender either. You perceive that your hearing lose, and accent entitle you to special consideration, and you are discriminated if you don't get treated special. You don't claim to be deaf, or handicapped, so essentially it's you, that isn't doing anything to get your disabilities fixed. Your accent can be modified, if you want to. Even a person with a bad stutter, can learn to speak fluently these days. Don't complain about the things you can change.

The truth is, you lie, you hate, and your reading comprehension skills suck. Pretty much everyone in America, are part some other nationality, or a mix of quite a few. Even the Native Americans are seldom full blooded anymore. You hate yourself, is it any wonder, most people don't care for your company? You don't like yourself much, how can you expect others to do, what you can't? If you you have problems, you get them fixed, you don't wait for somebody else to do it for you. We all got our own problems to work on, and we expect you to do your own work.

BTW, when Trump tells 4 non-whites to go back to where they came from, that is very much racism. And 3 of them are from the US. All 4 are American citizens.
Discrimination happens. And I could show your posts but as you just said, Trump's done nothing wrong.

Did Trump them to go to other countries, or back to the states/cities they came from? Pretty sure most, if not all those folks on Capital Hill, aren't from Washington, DC.

You still have avoid answering any of the question, and I was very blunt and direct. You complain about your citizenship, but you avoid answering for how long. Suspect you were born an American. Your father was as well, or lived most of his life in America. You aren't as special as you like to claim. It's likely you never live in Norway, maybe never even been there. Just the stories from your father, or grandparents.

You claim disability, imply it's related to your surgery, but very carefully avoid stating what that disability actual is.

Your hearing loss... We all have some degree of hearing loss, usually starts in our late teens, early 20's.

You want to keep using these things as an excuse, and want anyone to believe anything you have to say, you need to share the details as well. By continually avoiding the specifics, indicate deception.

I can tell you don't follow instruction very well. When you get told you need to do something, and how it needs to be done, it's not your hearing causing the problem, it's you. You do only the parts you feel like doing, when and how. You use your hearing loss as a defense, when you fail to get things done as instructed. It wasn't your surgery gone bad, it was your failure to follow your doctors instructions. When you went back to work, after, it was hard, you were out of shape. Rather than putting in the effort to get back into shape, and up to speed, you used the surgery as an excuse. It was your excuses, and lack of motivation, that got you fired. You figured you could just show, do only what you felt like doing, and everyone would be okay with it, since you are disabled. But the truth is that you aren't medically disabled, no documentation stating you have an impairment that limits you ability to perform any task. You are basically disabled by choice, not physical limitations.

Nope. It's not racism. You don't know what racism is. I know, I know, you have been led to believe that everything is racism and that racism is defined as "political opponents" but the bottom line is that you are just a victim of someone who took advantage of the fact that you don't know anything and can't think for yourself.

I'll help you out: If I kick you out of my house because all you are doing is insulting my house and my family, that's not racism, and your gender and appearance don't matter one iota. I realize that this might confuse you since you have been indoctrinated into believing that everything is racist and misogynistic and homophobic and anti-immigrant and lethal to the whole of humanity ... but it's only that way in your head. The problem is on your end. You are simply projecting your deluded perceptions.

So why does Trump's name keep popping up in this forum? Every mention of his name is accompanied with an implication or direct accusation of wrongdoing. Why is that, and why on this forum?

You use your citizenship, disability and hearing loss as a crutch all the time, but you never clearly define any of these, but imply they are severe, and the reason you are discriminated against. If you don't define these things, they have no value, and presumed to be a lie. I had a next door neighbor a lot like you for about 5 years. He was on Social Security disability, and waiting for a settlement check. The entire time, he never would say what sort of disability he had. Seemed physically normal, climbed ladders, worked on his car, moved furniture, mowed his lawn, trimmed trees. No blindness, no hearing problems, seemed mentally balanced. He simply avoided going into details of his accident, or what the nature of his disability. Still don't know how somebody, obviously able to work, could be on Social Security disability. He moved out shortly after he got his settlement.

It's not that you don't know how to follow instructions, you choose not to, thinking you know better, which you don't, and then you use your short-comings as an excuse. Like at work, when you did things your own way, and something went wrong, you claim you weren't told, or didn't hear correctly, because of your 'Service related hearing loss', a well practice, and often used line here on the forum. You worked in an Amazon warehouse. I work in a warehouse, it's hard work, fast paced, hot and sweaty work. I prefer to get it done, so I can go home, and still have a job the next day. Everyone there is easy enough to replace, and I've seen hundreds of slackers replaced over the years. Excuses only buy you so much time, but if you don't provide the performance you are paid for, you eventually get shown the door. Instead of pushing yourself to get back in shape, and do the work you were assigned, you tried to ride the surgery for all it was worth. Your doctor signed off you were recovered, and able to return. It's reasonable to expect a certain amount of time to get back up to speed, you just never put in the effort. I knew what to expect, stayed active the 10 weeks I was out, painful as it was. Had stuff to do around the house, as usual. Get bored easy, and like to keep busy any way. Wasn't easy at work the first few days, but I was pretty much able to perform as before. Went a lot better than I expected, but I was prepared. I'm very independent though, and do most things for myself, rather than get others to do it. Not often easy, but I manage. You seem to just do what you feel like doing, and everyone else is expected to do the heavy lifting for you, because of your 'disability'. You want the same sympathy here, but you don't define the limitations, or extent, so you don't get it, and claim discrimination. People don't like you because you lie and deceive, nothing else.

People who did not listen to them had a camp they could go to. They did not catch my father from America so he was not sent to camp. They caught his friend. He went to camp.
I take after my father. The more things change the more they remain the same.

I don't real know much about Nazis, other the horrific things, and the war. I'm sure there must have been more to it, than simply hatred. I don't know what sorts of things about the Jewish people, were sold as justification for all that hate, and justification for the way they were treated. I was just never really interested in the history of horrific acts, which was mostly what history classes in school focused on, wars, and bad rulers. These thing were over and done with, long before I was born.

You use it up quickly, those who you used, eventually get tired of it, and move on to someone more deserving, leaving you to find a new victim to leach off of for a while. Some may hate you, but I think most just abandon you. It's just a sympathy generator, if you can claim hate and discrimination, from people that want nothing more to do with you.

Still don't see what Nazis have to do with anything, it's general used as an insult these days, only morons use the title. What's wrong with living alone? It's entirely my own choice. I preferred not having the stress, responsibilities. I chose the freedom and independence, over putting a woman through hell. A lot of my interests aren't couple oriented, would be fair. I just found that I had a lot less time to do the things I enjoy most, and spent a lot of time doing things I was much interested in.

I do have some skills, which are often useful, but sometimes a curse. I remember a lot of things, often trivial things, and recognize patterns pretty well. Helps in electronics and programming, repairing things. Unfortunately, it works with behavior as well. The way you write, what you write, and the things you omit, tell a lot of things about you. Everybody has problems, usually we seek solutions, you use them as excuses and justifications. The various ways you use your problems, without seeking a working solution, tells a lot about how you think and function. Sure, I could be wrong, it's the internet, and only have words on a monitor to work with. The information is inconsistent, sometimes deliberately misleading, details omitted for a purpose. A great deal of hearing loss issues can be corrected these days. It won't restore perfect hearing, but it does make a lot more possible for most. Being complete deaf isn't a major disability anymore, most can learn to function quite well. But, I don't think that's the disability you claim, preventing you to work, or physically function. The electronic aids have gotten a lot more complex, than the simple amplifiers of the past. You only need to see a doctor that specializes in hear loss, to get the right device for your particular needs. Entirely your choice to live with it, rather than fix. Your problem, not everyone else's to deal with. Your other problems, you seem to deal with in a similar manner, rather than seeking a working solution, that's available, you live with them, and expect everyone to deal with it. Your choice not to get your problems fixed, leads to believe you prefer to use them to manipulate, and aren't as serious as you imply. You avoid going it detail, because you don't have anything useful, that wouldn't expose the fraud. I've seen these patterns many times, from the information you've given, I have little doubt you aren't being entirely truthful. The extent of the lies, or the reason, doesn't matter that much, since it goes toward your overall credibility.

Harvey, it's sad that you try to explain away my hearing loss. It's actually pretty fücked up. For you to go after it you have to be a world class loser. You're just one hateful son of a bitch. I can see why people don't want to live with you. You're a hater.
If you want people in your life you need to change. It's up to you.
It's sad that you said "putting a woman through hell" when referring to yourself.

I simply have no tolerance for Nazis Harvey. You fit the bill. Trump just doesn't have the passion that Hitler did. Maybe if he was more like a preacher?
And Harvey, IMHO you need a Republican swastika.

I'm sure your Nazi comparison is meant as an insult. Truth hurts, and you are in pain. You are fighting it, and afraid you might lose, and have to admit the truth to yourself. Your the one who keeps bringing up your 'Service related hearing loss', and there have been solutions available for many years, that would greatly improve your hearing. I don't see it as a valid excuse for anyone these days. If was truly a problem, you can get it corrected. You chose not to, so you aren't entitle to use it as an excuse, or blame others. I live alone by choice, I don't blame anyone, or use it as an excuse. Are you seeing the difference here? I'm happy with the choices I make, not crying about them. When I do have a problem, I work to fix it, not wait around for somebody else to do it for me. I'm nothing like you, and really don't see ever becoming anything like you. This is another post that tells us nothing about HarveyH55 but speaks volumes about you.

From your projection we can determine that you are a loser who lives alone and who is very bitter.

Your insistence on injecting these comments into threads on this forum are a cry for help. We can see from your repeated "everybody, look at me, pay attention to me" attempts to pretend that you are smart in science and math make it clear that you are starving for attention.

Sadly, I would not be surprised to learn that you are contemplating suicide. James__, see a counselor or therapist.

Why is it so important to have people sharing my home? I do have people in my life, I get out, socialize, people drop by. It's my choice entirely, it's what I'm most comfortable with. Now, you might be a lot more 'needy' than I am. I don't need a maid, a cook, or somebody to listen to me whine and complain. I don't somebody to push around, to make me feel like a big man.

Can I save this post of yours? It's just that if what I'm working on works out, it will provide a good laugh. I think people would like to see it. And you do have friends like itn and ibnotdamann.
Your ignorance is refreshing. Not all hearing loss is correctable. Sue Thomas was in the FBI because of her hearing loss. She was an expert lip reader. That lasted for 4 years.
Despite being college educated she had no life. Why don't you just say that you have no self respect? Being an American doesn't matter to you. You're spoiled is what you are.
Besides, unlike you I like having a woman in my life. It makes it better. It's not for everyone though.
I'm not the problem Harvey. I have nothing to do with your life. I do feel sorry for you.
Any thoughts on the 2 mass killings? There have been a lot since Oct. 2017. Sadly gun control would infringe on your rights. It's funny that you never served in the military. That's where people who like guns should go. It would show their support of why people need to own weapons designed for killing people en masses. But people who never served have a limited understanding.
I'm from Dayton and that guy murdered his own sister.
My sister was fed intravenously for over 20 years. I'm working to avoid that. I wouldn't want to go through what she did.
And Harvey, my cancer was diagnosed because doctors said I was healthy. My mother died from the same cancer I had. Doctors said I was a whiner and to come back in 3 to 4 months if symptoms persisted. I was stage 3. Waiting might've been a death sentence. And I think you're ignorant because you make assumptions based on nothing.

You carbon-capture invention? You do realize that plants do the job quite well, for free... Who do you figure on selling such a device to? Who do you think will build it for you. Probably have a better chance getting a perpetual/free energy device built. Carbon-capture sounds like the solution to all our climate needs, but it's another act of futility. It's a very large planet, and really not a whole lot of CO2. We already have plants and trees all over the planet, doing the same job, and the cost nothing to build or maintain, and they replicate all by themselves.

Some Universities, might pull off getting some funding, and building a proof of concept, but no way it'll get mass produced. Guess everyone has their hobbies though, have fun with that.

You're sad Harvey. Do you want me to pull your finger next?

Maybe you can learn some about American history? Even the automobile was laughed at as well as social security.
There was a time there was something called American ingenuity. I don't hear it mentioned anymore.

You're all talk, no motivation, and you don't seem to get all well with others. Even if there is some innovative ideal, you want build it yourself, and you are a good enough salesman, to get somebody to build it for you. Remember the perpetual motion machine thread, a few months ago? That you dude, except 20 years from now, you'll still be whining and complain about how other people treat you. Like said, nobody is going to pay big money, for something that is free. It's like spending a million dollars, creating an artificial forest, when you could have spent a fraction of that, and gotten the real thing, and gotten it done a lot quicker.

You have unrealistic expectations of people, and devices. They simply don't have the capacity to gratify your wants and needs. You have same hearing, so they can fit you with a device that will enhance an improve what's left. You won't have perfect hearing, but you can be more functional. You don't want improvement, it's either perfection, or why bother. You think your surgeon should have made you, as you were, before the cancer. He screwed up your surgery, because he didn't fulfill your dreams. Living, and being cancer free, just is good enough for you. And guess what, if you did manager to find some sucker, with more money, than common sense, and he got you invention built, you still would be happy, because nobody is going to buy it, and it probably would work as well as nature anyway. I've already look at two such devices, yeah, you're a few years behind, maybe they stole idea... Anyway, they did what they claimed, just not to a significant degree. They could capture CO2, and store it, but it was a very tiny amount. Thousands of these devices, would keep up with the megatons we allegedly produce. Solar panels and wind turbines are going to be the focus of manufacturing, least they produce something we can use.

I'm guessing that in 2050, when we are all schedule for a hot, fiery death, or many of the countries set as a goal to be carbon-neutral, but never got past the pledging stage... It's all talk, only a token gesture to show they are serious, but no serious progress in all these years. People aren't that committed, they talk about it, whine and complain, but they are willing to actually spend the money, or do the work. They all know it's BS, and it'll pass eventually.

You're sad Harvey. Do you want me to pull your finger next?

Maybe you can learn some about American history? Even the automobile was laughed at as well as social security.
There was a time there was something called American ingenuity. I don't hear it mentioned anymore.

I just told a friend of mine in Germany that in about 200 years it might be as cold as it was in 1750.
By 2050 aquifers in the US west of the Mississippi River might be depleted. Agricultural production takes water. We've discussed this and you basically said to hell with the ecosystem.
Problem is that as suggested, we can't catch and divert all rainfall. Fish couldn't spawn then.
Take some time to learn something. Rome fell because Romans were just that good. Yet all you can do is attack a disabled Veteran because I thought my country was worth serving.

Quite a few aquifers west of the Mississippi river are full right now. Why do you think they will be depleted?

I don't recall any aquifers that completely dried up permanently. They are continually replenishing. We they can keep up with the demand, other sources of water will be used. It's not the end of the world. Fish usually spawn above ground, in lakes, rivers, and streams. Probably a few creatures living down there, but doubt they are many, or all that critical. No sunlight underground, no plants, very little to use for food, not much could survive. Sort of a hostile, undesirable place to dump a load of babies.

Back to your disabilities... You never explain the nature of your disability, very vague. Best I can figure, a head wound? Just words on the internet, not everything is true, or accurate, and you use that quite a lot. You are entitle to write anything you want on the internet, doesn't mean anyone will believe any of it. You bring up your personal issues in every thread, why is that? I'm sure there are vets, who are whiners and complainers like you, I've just never met any yet. I get to meet a lot of vets, the VFW is right across the back alley from my house. No need to ask about disabilities, most are quite obvious, but many will tell you about them anyway. You avoid details, and use generic terms, that can mean anything you need them to mean. You want respect, but do nothing to earn it. You already spent the freebies on your lies of omission. You want respect, and any form of credibility (tough enough on the internet), you have to earn it, not expect or demand it. You are only getting what you paid for.

Yeah, hot and cold spells are easy to predict, because we go through them often enough, some years more extreme than others. Ozone Layer Ice Age in the 70's fizzled, because the cold never really came, most warmer. Then we got Global Warming, which hasn't really been working out as expected either. Doubt we'll trying Global Cooling again. Who knows, won't be many of us around to remember the great Ozone hole scare...

Allow me to accelerate your future success by thoroughly mocking you today. I'll start by pointing out that you aren't going to have any future success; your constant whining will make it impossible for you to get anywhere. Your defeatist attitude will eliminate any hope you might have of making progress on any project. Your scientific illiteracy will make it impossible for you to engineer anything that will work. Your inability to clearly define your terms or to ever complete a coherent thought will motivate others to give up trying to understand you. No one will step forward to finance any of your crazy ideas because they conspicuously violate physics.

I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors.

Heh. I know it's hard to keep track of the various panics over the years, but the Church of the Ozone Hole as different than the Church of Global Cooling/Warming/Change/WhateverTheHellTheyCallItNow. I just call it the Church of Global Warming.

There already is a movement afoot to claim Global Cooling again. Based on some Magick Sun Cycle, similar to the numerology found in Nostradamus quatrains.
