im a bm,
What about letting wildfires just burn? Sort of like a lot of volcanoes.
What about about all the pollution and other problems burning would produce?

At least California has finally changed it's policies. They're actually thinning forests on federal land to decrease the risk of forest fires from too much overgrowth. Some people consider forest fires as something that improves those ecosystems.
Older forests have less underbrush for smaller mammals to hide around. This in turn upsets the food chain.

Some wildfires cause so many problems that i can't see how they could be worth it (for their cooling effect by blocking the sun).

During El Nino years, Southeast Asian forests dry out and burn.

Sometimes there is so much smoke that it brings temperatures down significantly.

Part of the tug-of-war between global warming and global dimming.

Of course we don't want MORE wildfires.

Native Americans in Northern California used to deliberately set the fires while the fuel load was still damp enough to ensure only a low intensity burn.

Waiting for the dry lightning at the end of the summer start them resulted in much higher intensity burns.

OF COURSE there is a "cooling effect" when sun-blocking particles get between the sun and the earth's surface.

Instead of warming the earth's surface, some of the sunlight warms the particles in the atmosphere, or is reflected off of them back toward outer space.

No energy destroyed or created.

No need to invoke "thermodynamics".

No need to argue about something that has been proved "reproducible" by the Scientific Method, over and over.

No need to even define the term "cooling effect", unless it is an English-as-a-second-language audience.

So, my replies to you are below.

One more point. Smoke absorbs or reflects sunlight before it reaches the ground. The "cooling effect" is from less heat generated close to the surface.

Particulate aerosols also act as nuclei for rain drop condensation.

Without them, clouds are composed of relatively large drops that allow a lot of light to pass through them.

In the presence of aerosols, clouds are composed of much smaller drops, and are much more reflective than clouds made of larger drops.
