Many countries have socialized medicine but it didn't turn them into socialist countries.. I remember when the govt made documentary films about the dangers of pot turning everyone into heroin addicts and generating fear that if we didn't defend south vietnam the communists would gain all other counties in a domino effect. Those were real fear mongering examples. Socialism is government interference in the economy. It takes two major forms: communism, and fascism. Fascism is government manipulation of markets. Communism is government ownership of markets. It is not a form of government. There is no such thing as a 'socialist' nation or a 'capitalist' nation. Capitalism and socialism exist in every country. 'Socialized medicine' is communism. The government owns the market. In the States, medicine is also socialized, in the form of fascism for some elements and capitalism for others. The movie Reefer Madness is not about Vietnam. It is a goofy film made about the dangers of pot (and completely inaccurate). The threat against Vietnam and cascading across Asia was real. That war ended effectively in an armistice (no one won). Vietnam today has an oligarchy as a form of government. If i may ask to look at some references, you could choose to the only thing I would like to add- something some above folks have already said in diff words- is that one's context and upbringing like the red scare cannot be differentiated completely from one's understanding of a concept.
