He's not a liar or fake "chemist". He works where the "white liquor" is white liquor, 90 proof. The alcohol he works with is not the aromatic alcohol polymer known as lignin, it is the aliphatic alcohol known as ethanol.

Stephen Kmiotek, a professor of chemical engineering at Worchester Polytechnic Institute, said that the photos do seem to suggest that the tank collapsed inward. Instead of exploding and propelling outward, it imploded. That, to him, seemed to suggest a dramatic change in pressure, which causes an implosion. He said maybe there was a relief valve on top of this massive tank that could have been plugged and caused it to collapse.
