I have met my first warmazombie. He is the barman at a social club I am going to join.It started when I said to him how I am going to enjoy being a member for the next ten years and he stated the world might not be here in 10 years because of climate change. We are going to engage on it at the first opportunity and I will lead with sea levels as that is always a good place to start.

Make bet with the barman:

Talk about sea level rise when ice melts.

Have him fill a glass with ice, then fill that with water to the brim, leaving that glass on the bar.
Bet him that the water will NOT spill over the top when the ice melts.

That's a good way to start the 'sea level' discussion.

I went to the East bank when the tide was at 1.1 and measured to the water and it was 400mm to the top of the wall. The same as it was in 1968 when the wall was built

Where is the tidal station there? How do you know the tide was at 1.1? Is that station mounted to that wall?

What is the wall's vertical movement? is it sinking along with surrounding shore?

If the sea level stays where it is and the wall stays where it is and I can park at the left bank pub and get fish and chips and a pint of pale ale without needing a canoe I will be a happy camper. If the sea level rise had happened I would see it on the rock wall.Remember the claim is all these F&^k tonnes of ice has already melted and the sea has gone up 8 inches. The tide was predicted at 10.45 am at 1.1 metres The jetty on the left has an old style post with markings also there is a floating tide gauge with aerials on top just past the traffic bridge. There are 5 tide gauges in the river at East Fremantle I am aware of.

duncan61 wrote: If the sea level stays where it is and the wall stays where it is ...

The problem is that the earth moves. It shifts horizontally, it bubbles/bulges, it shifts vertically (either up or down) and it erodes ... constantly. Any wall that is in the ground will move as the ground moves. If the ground sinks then the wall sinks. If the ground is rising then the wall is rising. If the ground is shifting west-by-northwest at a rate of two inches per year then the wall has a west-by-northwest velocity of 2 inches per year.

Using the wall as a point of reference will result in this movement manifesting itself as hard errors and will certainly cause the sea level to appear to be changing because the reference point to any tidal measures is shifting.

duncan61 wrote: There are 5 tide gauges in the river at East Fremantle I am aware of.

What is the reference point for these tide gauges?

So it would seem that your wall is stable, at least in comparison to the jetty where the tidal station is. Did that station actually read 1.1 at the time?

Of course, both could be moving together.

The problem with tidal stations is that they are sitting on land, which moves. The land even has a tide of its own. Land shifts, moves, sinks, rises.

Remember predicted tide is not actual tide. Many factors affect the actual tide, including barometric pressure at the time.

The Arctic ice has never completely melted, not even close. Al Gore was way off on that doomsday prediction. Hell, even Norway has never fully thawed out, still has plenty of glacier ice. Of course, they will never have a chance of thawing out, until they patch the hole in the ozone layer, cutting off the Norwegian Jet Stream.

That trick only works for the sea ice equation and even there it is not really true because sea ice often holds snowfall which raises sea level somewhat.

As for ice melting it has been melting for 20,000 years and in that time sea level has risen over 400 feet as I recall. So sea level rise is actually old news

One issue I have with people is like when I went to work one day. This was in Everett, Washington. It had snowed. I saw a space between 2 parked cars. I did a snow drift and pulled a 180º turn and slid in between them.
A coworker saw it and I told them one thing, never again. It was just stupid on my part. Myself, I learned how to drive in snow and how to do such maneuvers, just not people friendly.
I pulled a 180 on a friend of mine taking a piss in a parking lot. I nailed it but lost a friend. And yet if I want to live a nice quiet life like the Amish have, Christians can't let me. I know what the extreme is. It's just that it's a place to be avoided.

Laws don't protect people from discrimination. Otherwise when I wanted to hook up with a gal that I was going to church with, the Christians that I worked with couldn't have gotten me fired.
I didn't promote my faith at work and they did.

Nope. Into the Night is correct again. The snow atop of the ice came from the ocean so guess what ... the ocean level remains exactly the same.

Nope. Do you have a valid dataset to support that assertion? The ocean has not risen perceptibly since the late 1800's and I don't see any reason it would have risen or lowered prior to that.

Nope. Works for all ice. Snow is ice as well. The global sea level is unknown. It cannot be measured. There is no reference point. No measurement exists from 20,000 years ago.

The information I have gleaned from being on this site and doing my own research has helped me twice this fortnight share some information with my customers. The polar bear and sea ice in Hudson bay is a real winner and it gets people very interested and is so easy to check.Sea levels not changing at all helps cement the truth as its been 50 years now for zip difference. My client today was from Zimbabwe and the African nations have not all of a sudden become wealthy and built 1000s of coal fired power stations as RCP 8.5 Predicted.I put my CO2 meter on and it does not go over 400ppm any more it hovers around the 390ppm-360ppm level. If CO2 drops to around 350ppm and stays there what happens now?Shall we just destroy the economy for shits and giggles
