QARAQOSH, Iraq (AP) – Pope Francis called on Iraq's Christians to forgive the injustices committed against them by Muslim extremists and to rebuild as he visited the wrecked shells of churches and met ecstatic crowds in the community's historic heartland, which was nearly erased by the Islamic State group's horrific reign.

At each stop in northern Iraq, the remnants of its Christian population turned out, jubilant, ululating, decked out in colorful dress, though heavy security prevented Francis from plunging into the crowd as he would normally do. Nonetheless, they seemed simply overjoyed that they had not been forgotten.

I'm trying to see any substantive difference between PETA, Greenpeace and the Vatican, i.e. organizational leaders who are very wealthy from their followers' donations, that live and travel in luxury while providing no other service than to tell those same followers what to believe, how to act and what they must sacrifice.

You make a good point..

Christ, too, discussed sacrifice and what He was to become (the ultimate sacrifice to save men from permanent death). Christ was not rich, never flaunted his wealth, never worshiped pagan religions nor Islam nor anything else but God the Father. Though He was the Son of God, he never took to himself God's glory or authority.

The only sacrifice that He counseled of men was that of a willingness to follow His teachings. He did discuss things like tithing, but that was to be strictly voluntary. It helped one to feel good about helping out his fellow man and so increase the appreciation for what Christ gave to the world.

In the Old Testament, animal sacrifices were taught by God through Moses and later prophets. That ended when Christ made the ultimate sacrifice. These animal sacrifices were a similitude for the later sacrifice Christ would make...again, to teach appreciation for what was to come and the importance of it.

Over the years, of course, the lesson concerning sacrifices was perverted and forgotten by many, resulting in the money grubbing you mention, even by the Pope. This particular Pope has prayed to Pagan gods, supported Islam, which teaches that Christ was not the Son of God, and apparently never read the Bible about Noah's ark.

He's a weird one.
