The say Mercury is cooler than Venus even though closer to the Sun because Mercury don't have CO2. Mercury has practically no atmosphere, a teeny tad more than Earth's moon has. Venus has 100 times the atmosphere Earth has. Has nothing to do with CO2. Has everything to do with atmosphere. Atmosphere creates friction between air molecules. Friction makes heat.
