What happens next with the fluoride in the drinking water? The ruling by a US judge, an "Obama judge" at that, is unlikely to stand. It is unlikely that an appellate court would agree there is compelling evidence of harm to IQ from even the maximum current allowed levels of fluoride in drinking water. In the unlikely event that an appeal upholds the ruling, it will only impact a tiny fraction of the US population. A few places will have to designate the water supply unpotable, unless they can dilute or otherwise reduce the naturally occurring high fluoride content. The judge's ruling, even if upheld all the way to the Supreme Court, will not stop the deliberate addition of low levels of fluoride that impacts most of the US population. What RFK Jr and Trump want to do is a whole different question. Or the wild card would be that the US Supreme Court designate themselves to the super scientists and declare ALL levels of fluoride in water to be hazardous. REALITY CHECK This thread began about a US Federal judge ruling about the MAXIMUM amount of fluoride EPA allows in drinking water. This will not affect ANY water system to which fluoride is deliberately added. They are all way below the maximum amount allowed by EPA, and would continue to be under the judge's ruling. A very small minority of water supplies containing naturally high concentrations of fluoride WILL be affected, if the ruling stands. So, nobody is going to STOP ADDING fluoride under the ruling. Some will have to figure out how to REMOVE naturally occurring fluoride, or find another source of drinking water. Trump knows that "fluoride is not a chemical" because he is super smart. So when Trump used the word "fluoride" in describing some of the tasks that RFK Jr. is eminently qualified to supervise, he knew damn well that fluoride not a chemical. So, why would he even use the word "fluoride"? Well, Trump also understands that whatever minimal benefit fluoride in water might provide for dental health, it is FAR outweighed by the harm caused by the epidemic of mental retardation being caused by fluoride poisoning. He even saw someone explaining it on television, so he knows all about it. And RFK Jr. will fix it! Trump has already specifically identified removing fluoride from water as something that RFK Jr. is qualified to take charge of. RFK Jr. will offer his expertise as an environmental scientist and medical genius. And he will surely be fully compatible with Trump's climate policies. Fluorapatite IS A CHEMICAL. Fluoride, the name of an important anion in chemistry. "Fluoride" is not technically a "chemical", because it is not the complete name of a chemical formula. SO WHAT? Fluoride's chemistry doesn't care if you call it a chemical or not. But maybe it should be repeated for the 100th time that fluoride is not a chemical because it proves... something. THERE ARE TWO KINDS OF FLUOROSIS Fluoride is the name of the anion of fluorine, and fluorides are the class of chemical compounds containing it. Fluoride is needed to form the mineral fluorapatite, a calcium fluoride phosphate, which is the hard ingredient in tooth enamel. Bones are made of calcium phosphate, with no fluoride included. The first kind of fluorosis is the kind that allowed it to be discovered that fluoride is needed for decay resistant teeth. Some natural spring waters contain high concentrations of fluoride. People who drank the water their whole lives showed dark speckling in their teeth. They also never got cavities in their teeth. In severe cases, chronic exposure to high fluoride water causes SKELETAL fluorosis, with some fluoride actually getting into bone. The second kind of fluorosis is the kind that messed up my own teeth. People who drink very low fluoride water are adapted to take up as much fluoride as possible from the meager supply. When given fluoride supplement, if given in excessive amounts, way too much fluoride gets taken up into the teeth. Not good. I am an extreme case, having secretly eaten and held down a bunch of fluoride pills as a child, to get an orders of magnitude overdose. Apparently, it left me quite mentally retarded. Fortunately, the graduate school at UC Berkeley had an excellent remedial education program for fluoride-induced mental retards such as myself. But don't let this happen to anyone else! Chinese health officials determined in 1995 that they could INCREASE the average IQ of their citizens by 10 points, simply by giving them POISON. A TEN POINT INCREASE in IQ, on average, is what the predict the benefit to be. Most forms of Iodine are at LEAST as poisonous as fluoride! There are many different chemical forms of iodine, as is true for fluorine. Hydrofluoric acid and periodic acid are both quite deadly if injested in relatively small amounts. Sodium iodide and sodium fluoride are both innocuous in relatively small amounts. According to conspiracy theorists, fluoride can make people dumber. According to medical scientists, iodide can make people smarter. The Chink... excuse me, the CHINESE are giving the people "poison" to make them smarter. Many high mountain regions of the world have very low levels of iodine in the environment that can get into food or water. Extreme iodine deficiency causes goiters and growth problems. More common degrees of iodine deficiency simply limit potential brain development. About a third of China's population lives in high mountain regions where iodine deficiency is widespread. The Chinese knew it would be way too expensive to put iodine in the water supply, though. So they mandated that table salt be iodized. No more plain salt in the stores, anyway. So, do the math. Two thirds of the population is not IQ-limited by iodine deficiency. Their average IQ will continue to be 100. One third of the population IS IQ-limited by iodine deficiency. Their average IQ will be increased by THIRTY POINTS in order for the whole country average to be raised by ten. Yes, the Chinese are deliberately "poisoning" their people to make them smarter! By now, they probably have the data to know if it worked. On the other hand, the Chinese authorities might already have serious regrets about the success of the iodine-deficiency-reduction policy. China's only significant Muslim population lives in one of those high-mountain regions where iodine deficiency helped to keep the people stupid. Perhaps the success of the iodized-salt-policy begun in 1995 is reflected in the fact that an entire population must now be "reeducated" in locked camps. And perhaps the real goal of the fluoride-induced-retardation policy in the US is to keep the people stupid so they can be controlled without having to put them in locked camps. Yes, there is a universe where it all makes sense. Maybe the conspiracy theorists can show the data that convinced the scientific genius US "judge" to get so paranoid about fluoride.
