I've not worked in the field for a long time now (software development pays a lot better), but the most interesting work I did was on mathematical modelling of magnetohydrodynamic equilibria in JET. This involved finding simultaneous solutions of Maxwell's equations and the Navier–Stokes equations that fitted both the toroidal boundary conditions and experimental data in order to determine the properties of the confined plasma.
