It is part of the scientific subculture to be very conservative in predictions of problems. Thus there is a fairly high probability that the global warming damage will be worse than scientists allow themselves to predict.

In fact, already some underpredictions have been noted. Ice in the arctic has in the last couple of years been melting faster than was being predicted earlier.

In thinking about global warming then, one needs to consider the likelihood that current projections into the future are underpredictions.
