Once I finally did read it, I couldn't really figure out what it is saying. Is it saying that fossil fuel companies should give up their assets to the Federal Government? That doesn't really make sense, since that is coal and oil, and natural gas. They're not going to give that up. Or is there some way to just seize the CO2 that they are going to produce with the amount of fossil fuel they have?

But I did notice this. The author of that petition is under the assumption that he can use the amount of CO2 that has been produced, and directly equate that to a rise in temperature. It doesn't work exackery like that. He thinks that we can add as much as we have so far, before the temperature increases above the magic 2C limit. He's nuts, lol. The amount of CO2 and CH4 that have been released to date will eventually push the temperature of the planet way past that magic 2C limit. The planet is gradually warming up, and will continue to warm for hundreds or thousands of years before it begins to cool back down, unless something happens to block the sun, like a major volcanic eruption. We don't have a few hundred more gigatons that we can safely produce. We are already beyond safely producing CO2 and CH4.
