trafn★★★☆☆ (779)	While the existence of M2C2 (man-made climate change) is well established, and the options for mitigating it are well known, two factors which haven't been talked about much are the transition costs and the risk of a transition collapse: a global economic recession/depression due to a too rapid transition which eliminates too many petrochemicals too soon before enough alternatives have been brought on-line. If done too rapidly, though, we could have a serious shortfall in energy resource liquidity. Evidently there is a balance to be drawn between getting it done A.S.A.P. and getting it done right. I view this problem as if we're in a boat heading down a river with a waterfall 1 mile ahead, but it takes 2 miles to turn the boat around. Therefore, business as usual is not an option. While we could run the boat aground, that would be a metaphor for bursting the "carbon" bubble too early.
