I would say so, since it is often used as an example of an 'Earth gone bad' due to the amount of CO2 in it's atmosphere.

Personally, I have no idea now Venus could have ever looked remotely like Earth.

Venus was never a good kid and everyone knew it would end up like it did.

My earth has always been a good planet and would never go down Venus' orbit.

Venus looks like every other planet ... with its eyes.

It's about as relevant as you and ITN are.

I'm no astrophysicist, but I'd guess that each planet serves some purpose. Removing one from the lineup, would change a few thing for the rest. Of course, we would never really know the effect, until we removed it, much like removing CO2 on this planet. Climatologist are only 'guessing' about CO2, and the only tests would be to either add as much CO2 as possible, quickly, or remove most of it. Guess they figure it easier to replace the CO2, when they figure they got it wrong, but maybe by then, greener energy will have become popular enough, that most people would go back to burning stuff. No need to replace the CO2 they removed, since it's not that important anyway, and the famine, is doing a great job of population reduction.

It's about as relevant as most Climatology sign reading schemes. Really surprised that Hurricane Barry didn't get much climate change attention. Last year, even tropical storms got blamed on man-made CO2. Maybe it didn't sell well last year, so they are focusing on a different product this time. Barry didn't really cause the death and destruction needed for getting people stirred up much.

We've been studying Mars a lot closer than Venus, would think that to be the most likely fixation. Maybe Mars get so much attention, since it's a little more likely for people to move there and survive, briefly... Venus, nothing we send there to do any studying, doesn't last very long. Don't really understand the fixation with Mars, other than the challenge. Seems like a very low probability of returning people safely back to Earth. Always thought a moon colony would have been a better project. The space station thing, was just throwing money and materials away. The zero gravity experiments could have been done on the ride to and from the moon, or on a smaller version of a space lab, if requiring a longer duration. Light gravity on the moon, probably wouldn't be so bad for most of that stuff anyway.

The Church of Global Warming has been in serious decline for several years now. The DNC already has told its candidates to avoid emphasizing Climate Change because it's a loser that generates huge negatives (of course all Democrat candidates must continue to talk to it to appease their fanatical base lest they risk getting thrown out of the race)

The democrats seem to like issues that piss off the republicans. The House just passed doubling the federal minimum wage, $15/hour. Don't think it will pass the senate, Trump shouldn't pass it. It's bad timing though, being election season, and easy, or free money clouds a lot of voter thinking. $7.25 is plenty generous for flipping burgers, and many other non-career type jobs. It really shouldn't be a legislative mandate though, should be on a ballot, let the population vote on it. I'm sure more of the people working minimum wage would agree, that it's a bad idea. It was never expect that all jobs would turn into careers, maybe that's how socialism works. Doesn't matter what work you do, it pays the same as everyone else, even those that choose not to work. Minimum wage jobs, are usually part time and temporary, not something to raise a family on. You got some extra expenses, you pickup a second job, until you get caught. You want to make a major purchase, take an expensive vacation, maybe the wife can do a few hours a week. High school kids can work them, until the go off to college, or find a better job.

Employers know there is going to be a high turnover rate, and new employees cost money. They'll pay what they need to, to retain an employee best they can, no need for the government to tell them to pay twice as much. $15/hour makes automation look a lot more affordable in the long run. Kind of a high initial cost, but you get consistent work done, and maintenance costs likely less than ObamaCare for a flesh wearing worker. Machine isn't going to call in sick, before or/and after the major sporting events.

At $15/hour, there won't be that many temporary/part time jobs, since more people will want them as 'careers', since they wouldn't need to work as hard, and low expectations. Not to mention, if they do get fired, and can't get a sympathy money over discrimination, they can always find another job that pays the same.

Easy money gets people in trouble, kid special, since they don't have the sense of responsibility, or the real value yet. Many still live at home, or get support from parents, not a lot of bills to pay. They suddenly have a pocket full of cash, and the freedom to do what they want with it. People addicted to drugs or alcohol like young people, with a lot of spending money. Addicts to stay employed long, but still have an expensive habit to feed, plenty willing to show kids with money a good time, on their dime...

But that's the point, i.e. be the party of giving away everything for free and of redistributing the wealth.

It's a major part of why Trump is already reelected.

Zero gravity experiments are done in Earth orbit. There is no need for a trip to Mars for those. The space between Earth and Mars is affected by gravity just as much as the space in Earth's orbit.

The effect of zero gravity (actually ALMOST zero gravity!) is achieved simply by the orbit itself.

Mars is tiny, only about 1/6th the size of Earth. That's larger than our Moon, but is too small to retain much of an atmosphere. It orbits our Sun in about the same time as two of our years. This means to travel there, we have to wait for Mars to lead Earth by about 44 deg or the spacecraft will simply miss the planet when it arrives at the orbit of Mars. That opportunity occurs fairly often. The big challenge is to build a spacecraft capable of life support for the entire crew for 100 days, and carry sufficient fuel to escape Mars again when done.

All that is weight. A lot of weight. That makes it harder to get it off the Earth in the first place. The Saturn V rocket, the largest rocket ever built, was barely able to lift enough of this off the Earth to take a crew of three to the Moon and back (about 2 weeks).

Mars is an environment where our equipment works. Venus is very hard on equipment. A trip to Mars is a much more hospitable destination for our equipment to survive in, including our spacesuits.

Mars holds an attraction for several reasons:
* It's close.
* It's compatible with out equipment.
* It has a historic significance in science, since Mars was used to show that planets do not follow perfectly circular orbits, resulting in Kepler's equations for them.
* It has a religious significance, being the God of War, and appearing to move backwards across the sky from time to time (retreat?).
* It has a popular significance, having been the object of many books, movies, and comics about alien life coming from Mars and invading Earth.
* It has two moons, and those provide further opportunity to explore their effect on the planet.
* It presents an enormous challenge to send a manned ship there, far beyond the challenge it took to get to the Moon (which we currently can't do today), and so captures the dream of many a politician wanting to repeat the Great Adventure that JFK started, and outdo it.

Will we ever visit Mars with a manned craft? Possibly, but not with today's NASA. They can't even get off the ground anymore with anything but tiny satellites tossed up into Earth's orbit. They even have to hitch a lift from the Russians to get to the space station and back.

It's going to be a real test of the Democrats, this issue. It is setting radical against radical. It is quickly becoming the religious war that could tear the party in two. You already saw what it did in the House recently.

I think Trump is a whole lot smarter than he acts. Seems to really have a knack for stirring up the hornets nest. He tweet some stuff, the democrats immediately pounced on, as racist, and poor behavior for a president, quick vote of resolution to condemn. But, I didn't see anything that was directed specifically at anybody in congress, not did he specifically state they should leave the country. Could be taken many ways, but he was very careful about the wording. Most of congress isn't from Washington, DC, they represent individual states, which they tend to ignore... Going back to where they came from, could just mean go back to your home state. The 4 women, who felt they were targeted, had also made some insensitive comments, acted badly, in just the first few months of being elected. Maybe feeling guilty...
Never really understood what exactly is considered antisemitic, so just avoid saying anything that isn't praise or respectful. But two of those congresswomen really crossed the line, and should have gotten a little more than a talking to over it. Part of being an elected official, is that you are always on the clock, everything you do and say, is work related. Starting pay of $175k/yr, we deserve professionals. They'll be up for re-election, before earned, what they make in a year. Yet, they want to impeach Trump over his tweets, that weren't specific enough to waste time and money on. The point is, why run for office, if you don't love the country, and want to see it improving? It's not suppose to be about democrats and republicans, it's about the people who elected them. Doing nothing constructive, and fighting each other, isn't helping the country.

Harley, you're ignorant. This is the 21st century. Americans told my father to go back to where he came from. I wish he did. I would've had a better life. I could've had a family.
Stick to the issue and quit being a racist pig. We all know Americans are just better. Ask ITN.

And ITN, when you say Americans are better. I will agree with you.

Harvey, it's written about in books, American and in the Philippines? $10 and she has to do anything you want. Want a 12 year old girl? Had American shipmates who said yes. They bragged about it.
Why US bases were closed in the Philippines. I can also point out the book by a Navy pilot who mentions things that would be illegal in the US.

So what keeps you here in America? The door is always open, there are a lot of countries that would welcome you. I don't travel outside the country, most because it could be sort of expensive, and I likely spend more time learning the laws and customs, before going, then I would actually be staying there. I don't think doing the tourist thing, really gives an honest view of any country, and you can always look at the same pictures and videos, of anything you'd likely see going there. Our country is the same, we tend to keep the tourist areas safe and clean, but a few streets over, you can buy drugs, prostitutes, and get beaten and robbed. I've heard you can look down the street in front of the White House, and see drug deals two blocks away.
Some people travel, think they don't have to obey the laws and customs in other countries, because they are American, they have rights. Not all countries have the same laws and punishments. Some Americans take advantage of the local customs in other countries, things that are illegal, or immoral here. I don't think they can be prosecuted for things that or legal in other countries, while there. Our laws only apply on American soil, and we are expected to follow the laws of whatever country we visit.

I can't imagine a much better life anywhere else. No country is going to be perfect, but this hasn't been bad at all. You complain about it, our people, you hate America. Ever considered running for congress? Seems like the democrat thing these days.

Been there, done that. A hamburger in South Korea is a piece of ham between 2 slices of bread. A burger is a sandwich, right?
Oscar is also local alcohol. Pay some won to drink it inside.
In a bar you might confuse Phillipino pesos for Australian dollars.
And in Norway it's krone.
I used to live in Norway and have been in several different countries. English is also my 2nd language. I mean what are the odds of a Norwegian having a son that learns Norwegian before English?
I hate loving this Harvey but you're an American, you would know this.

If you're wondering, I crossed the Atlantic Ocean at the age of 4. We went from Norfolk, Virginia to Hamburg, Germany. What did you do when you were 4? I also legally entered a bar

My mum was pissed about that. I mean my dad wanted a beer and the legal drinking age didn't exist. Now that's funny

@Harvey, might owe you a big thanks. When my brother and his wife had her brother visiting them, me and my parents were there. When she went to brag about her brother being a shellback, she didn't know I was one as well. I lied and said my father was. He realized pretty quickly to go along with me.
It was probably odd for him that someone would lie to include him. That was the best lie I ever told. I almost forgot about that but you helped me to remember it. Thank You.

He does it for entertainment purposes, and to show what kind of people Democrats and other liberals are.

That's what they do. It doesn't matter what he tweets, it's something to condemn him for (it's not 'Presidential'. It's 'racist'. It's bigotry!. It's lies! We can impeach him over it!). You know, the hornet's nest.
HarveyH55 wrote:

There wasn't. They are making shit up again in the fake news to try to show he said something he didn't.
HarveyH55 wrote:

The tweets themselves really could have only been taken one way. The fake news media has been working overtime to tell their readers about stuff he said and did that never happened. It becomes the News Cycle of the Week, and is copied by AP to NYT, LAT, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, FOX, etc. FOX news is intelligent enough to ignore some of it when it comes in .

NONE of Congress is from Washington DC (except for the representatives of Washington DC). They are each from the States and Districts they represent (except for a few carpetbaggers of course.).

Antisemitic is just bigotry against the Jewish community. Trump has made no such remarks. The only such bigotry you see is from Democrats and other liberals, particularly the so-called squad of four.
HarveyH55 wrote:

Power.. This is why the Democrats and other liberals run for office. They don't love the country. They hate it. They want to overthrow it. Running for office allows them to obtain the power to do just that. They envision that such power will leave them as the 'elites' when the nation is converted into one vast oligarchy and the Constitution is destroyed.
HarveyH55 wrote:
It's not suppose to be about democrats and republicans, it's about the people who elected them. Doing nothing constructive, and fighting each other, isn't helping the country.

It is about exactly that.

The Democratic Party only exists because of people that support it. The numbers of people that support made it a major party. The same is true for the Republican Party.

There are lot of other parties, including the Libertarians, the Green Party, the Socialist Party (where they don't like about what they are anymore), the Climate Change Party (unofficial, but it's there), the Technocrat Party, and literally hundreds of others. The Republicans and the Democrats are currently the most popular parties, so they are the ones constantly in the news.

In the end, it comes down to the liberals, who will stop at nothing to overthrow the United States and replace it with fascism by oligarchy, eventually to become communism by oligarchy or even dictatorship; and the conservatives, that want to save and protect the Constitutions of this great nation and capitalism.

In the end, it's about those that desire compulsion, vs those that desire freedom of choice to govern your own life as you see fit.

Never has the nation been so polarized. Not even during the Civil War has the nation been this polarized. It's not about Trump. It's about the sheer and utter hatred because he's succeeding.

Does Venus cause all this hatred for America, by self-proclaimed foreigners? It's really simple, don't stay in places you don't like. Must be something good about our country, they choose to stay, and whine about not getting more free stuff. It's pretty much like anywhere in the world, you have to work a little, to get a little. Work a lot, get a lot. The key is to balance your wants, with how much work you are willing to put into it. No country is perfect, you just have to figure out which on offers the most, of what you want an need. Our government is a mess, always has been, but at least we get some say in many things, and don't get shot for saying it.

America isn't perfect, it has it's problems, like everywhere else you can go to live, but the benefits greatly outweigh the faults. Why waste your life complaining, when you could be appreciating all you have available to you? Maybe ICE should pick a few stray anti-patriotic, and deport them too.

People like you do Harvey. Like you said, when a surgeon made a serious mistake, I am supposed to live with it. If I don't then it will be my fault if your cost for health insurance goes up.
You're not that bright. But people in here will defend you saying that literacy doesn't matter. Black Sabbath had a concert tour called Mob Rules. That's the US anymore. Like you say, you have more important things to do than actually learn something about what you're talking about. Just too d@mned lazy.

And Harvey, since ITN agrees with you, I guess that's why Native Americans stay on the rest, right? Life is that good. How do we know Harvey? Because you said life is that good. But to me Harvey you're nothing more than a bigot.
I served in the armed forces and you didn't. Yet you fault me for wanting surgery so I can have a life. Your illiteracy shows. You take no pride in being an American. You simply expect an easy life because that's all you've ever had. You don't know what hard work is. You know those words but little about what it actually is. Like you said, you're a man of leisurely pursuits.

And Harvey, people haven't let me have a life because of my service connected hearing loss. I'm told because the US is a capitalist country that means exploiting people rather than working with them. I'll be able to show where one person told me they couldn't work with me on an invention but if I built it and it worked that he would sue me. So it is possible I will leave my country one day and if I do, it will be because of my service connected hearing loss and nothing else.

It's funny because no one would know if I was 1/2 Norwegian if I didn't tell them. Yet I have been told at work that I have a job because I work hard and tolerate abuse from people with normal hearing.
And as ITN agreed with you, people stay where they are because they know they have it good.

I don't believe your story anymore, James. I don't believe any surgeon did anything do you, or that you were ever in the service, or that you have a hearing loss of any kind.

You are just a whiner.

Anymore Harvey I'll just think that you're fascist. After all, if I don't support your party then I am in the wrong country. It's funny because no one would know if I was 1/2 Norwegian if I didn't tell them. Yet I have been told at work that I have a job because I work hard and tolerate abuse from people with normal hearing.
And as ITN agreed with you, people stay where they are because they know they have it good.
And to think I thought Native Americans stayed on the "Res" because it's difficult escaping poverty.

Not the definition of fascism, James. I don't believe your stories about your medical problems at all anymore.

Most native Americans do not live on a reservation, and most are not in poverty.

If you choose to gamble in Vegas, you have to live with the results of each risk you take, i.e. you live with the rewards if you win and you endure the losses if you lose. The casino is not required to compensate you if you lose nor are you obligated to compensate the casino if you win.

If you choose to request a surgeon operate on you, you sign papers acknowledging the risks of each procedure and yes, you have to live with the results of each risk you take, i.e. you get better if the procedure is successful and you endure the physical setbacks if it is not. It's sad that other people have to speak for Harvey. Is he your girlfriend? Are you and IBdaMann sweet on him?
I just find it odd that a Native American would support someone who supports Trump. The 3 of you do have something else in common. It's a control issue. You have no self control and aren't in control. Why is that so important?
You must feel threatened by me. Maybe next President Trump will say that Native Americans live in Mexico because they were displaced by immigrants from Mongolia and China according to Native American folklore.
Thing is ITN, you and IBdaMann are no different, I would say typical Americans but that wouldn't be true. You're typical of the bottom of the pile. Don't have nothing and don't want to see someone else have something. There's a lot of people like you in the US. As for Harvey, he might want to consider why he's in his situation.

Does Venus cause all this hatred for America, by self-proclaimed foreigners? It's really simple, don't stay in places you don't like. Work a lot, get a lot. The key is to balance your wants, with how much work you are willing to put into it. Our government is a mess, always has been, but at least we get some say in many things, and don't get shot for saying it.

Bigot? I treat everyone the same, until they define who they are as an individual. You really can't tell much by appearance, or even conversations in the beginning, people hide behind mask, want to give a certain impression, sometimes it's defensive, sometimes delusional. No, I don't everybody, but that goes on an individual basis, nobody gets special considerations either. I'm just not the enabling type.

Medical mistake, 9 years ago, and you can't find a doctor to agree with you? Ever consider maybe you self-diagnosis is wrong? You seem a little light on biology, maybe physiology is a little beyond your studies. 9 years survival is pretty good for cancer treatment. Like I told you before, tell your doctor about your medical issues, leave the cancer surgery out of it. You problems might not be related. Follow the advice and treatments offered.

Service, armed forces, military, are all generic terms, encompass a large variety of jobs and functions. There are a lot of non-combat positions, there are a lot of military jobs, that never level this country, or even leave the base or office assigned. You never give a branch, or you roll in your 'service, so figure you weren't front-line infantry, special forces, or combat pilot. Most of the vets I've know, don't use the generic terms, if they served in the Marines, the say it with pride. Never heard a whiner about war injuries either, most don't want to talk about them much, short answer. Basically, part of the job, could have been worse, some come home in box. You know that when you sign up.

I've work hard my entire life, didn't get any freebies. I earned my right to pursue any leisure activities I choose. Been working in the same warehouse for almost 28 years now. Started at $6.51, make $19.70/hour now. It's hard work, no climate control, it's hot and sweaty most of the year in Florida. Majority of the employees have been there 5 years or less, fairly high turnover, over 1,000 employees. Never had an office job, nor am I in any position of authority, just my seniority. Still takes at least two people to do my job, when I go on vacation. It's not that I'm a physical beast, but I learn to do things efficiently, most people don't understand, and refuse to listen and learn from me.

Native Americans don't really live in poverty on the reservations. They live simpler lives, fewer wants and needs there. Some don't care for that lifestyle, and want to leave, be more like the rest of the country. There are quite a few reservation, that do a pretty good profit, as resorts, and casinos, since they don't have the same laws and restrictions. That's the problem with liberals, they think everybody wants to be just like them, needs to be just like them, can't imagine anyone be any other way. I'm not a strong republican, open to who is most likely to do the best thing for the country, which generally is a republican, since they aren't looking for a quick-fix, or throw some money on it, let somebody else pay for it later.

Basically, you lie, mostly by omission. Use a lot of generic terms, and imply that they are more significant than they actually are. Being half Norwegian means nothing, most of our ancestor moved here from other countries. If you are an american citizen, you are an AMERICAN, same as the rest of us. Your family history makes no difference. I don't like lies and deceptions, just not that forgiving. Once that is learned, I have to question everything you claim, no way to verify or validate your claims.
