The first New Deal was a series of domestic programs enacted in the United States mostly between 1933 and 1938, during the first term (1933–37) of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. A response to the Great Depression, it focused on relief for the unemployed and poor, recovery of the economy to normal levels, and reform of the financial system to prevent a repeat depression. Even if you don't believe in M2C2 (man-made climate change), would you still want to participate in a "New" New Deal that retrofits and transforms the world from a petrochemical economy into a carbon neutral economy? Many advocates have said that what is needed for AGW is comparable to what the US did in response to WWII when it entered it. Different from the New Deal, but analogous. We changed the direction of the economy very quickly. This doesn't mean it has to be the same in every way. The point is that with direction and resources and motivation we did what a lot of people thought then and now would not be possible. I saw a TV program on SLR a while back and it suggested that sea walls will be the growing sector later this century as cities try to hold the ocean back. I have also read that wind and solar employ a lot of people, Given that many new industries these days do not employ nearly as many people as major companies did decades ago, new energy construction and infrastructure, which could include a smart grid, could be the place to employ people who are not employed due to automation. |

@drm - it seems things are moving in the "solve the M2C2 problem" direction. Wonder how long it will take the denialist to get on board? An environmental Pearl Harbor perhaps? PS - check out a movie called "Carbon Nation" The 2015 M2C2 (Global 9/11) Denialist Troll Awards

@IBdaMann - so you see, even if you don't fully, or even partly agree with or believe in M2C2 (man-made climate change) it still might be a good thing!
