That is a way less efficient way of generating energy, yielding just about 6% of the amount of energy that burning sugar with oxygen would. But the fermentation process works way faster, and prioritizes growth, rather than maximizing energy consumption like a parasite would. Now... When most people get cancer, its fast growing cells form tumors. The tumors are so acidic, they destroy human cells, and the host dies. But one thing I know from quitting orgasms, is that I have cured my acid reflux. Counterintuitively, acid reflux results from somebody not having enough acid in their stomach.
