Fluoride is the anion of fluorine, F-. Most chemists would say it IS a "chemical".

Most dentists would say that it is beneficial to have some fluoride in the water supply.

Another exhaustive study confirms that the mythical health hazards and risk to IQ development allegedly associated with fluoride are RKF Jr having flashbacks.

But this is the reign of ANTI SCIENCE!

The fluoride anion, F-, is not a "class" of anything. It is a specific chemical with a specific formula. There is only one fluoride anion. "Fluorides" (sodium fluoride, potassium fluoride, etc.) are a "class", but not fluoride itself. But you don't trust dictionaries or textbooks, so it won't do any good to give you a reference.

If you had ever taken a course in chemistry, which you obviously never have, you would potentially have something of value to contribute.

Or you could, once again, write out "Carbonate is not a chemical" TWO HUNDRED TIMES. To make some kind of point, I guess.

Meanwhile, that carbonate ion, the oxyanion CO3(2-), is the important player in ocean "acidification".

Learning what it is, rather than simply denying its characterization as a "chemical", would give you something more than "Water itself is a buffer for acid" to say about sea water chemistry.

Infinite dilution is not the solution to pollution, even if it DID exist.

Yes, a "class" or "category" is exactly what it is, you just happen to be too uneducated to know this. If you were to learn science, however, especially chemistry, it will help you tremendously.

Im a BM wrote: It is a specific chemical compound with a specific formula.

Nope. The class of fluoride is defined as having fluorine in the −1 oxidation state. It is any chemical species that contains the fluoride ion, F⁻, e.g. Sodium fluoride (NaF), Calcium fluoride (CaF₂), Stannous fluoride (SnF₂), Hydrogen fluoride (HF) (becomes fluoride in water), etc., and also includes ionic fluorides (salts), covalent fluorides (molecules), and complex fluorides (e.g., BF₄⁻).

I highly recommend you ask a chemist to verify this for you, and while you are at it, ask about "classification" and "categories" if you can.

Clearly, there are a whole lot more people reading than posting.

I suspect that James is no longer alive.

Harvey got too disgusted with being insulted for not believing in magic petroleum.

Keepit may have met his maker by now, or maybe he just found greener pastures for Internet discussion.

I wouldn't be surprised if tmiddles continues to occasionally follow the discussion and make semi annual visits.

GassyGuz is MIA.

And this little tidbit is all we get from Gfm7777.

But maybe climate-debate.com will rise again.

Google will once again display this website high on the results list for those seeking a climate change discussion website.

Other websites offer "skeptic" science. Sure, climate changes. But there is no definitive proof that humans are responsible, right?

WRONG!

Here is where they insist that CLIMATE CANNOT CHANGE. Ever. By any plausible mechanism of any kind.

Here is where they insist that it is simply not possible to know what happened in the past, because we were not there to personally witness it.

Here is where they insist that it is simply not possible to measure climate-related parameters.

Here is where they insist that there is "no such thing" as climate change, or biogeochemistry, terminal electron acceptors, organic carbon... the list goes on and on for the HARD CORE SCIENCE DENIAL that you can find at climate-debate.com

None of this half ass pussy "skeptic" shit here. They go ALL THE WAY with the science denial here.

There is simply "no such thing" as "climate change".

Long time no see!

Hey, I still remember you fondly.

You were so awesome in the "alligators are amphibians" debate!

You backed up IBdaMann's demands with righteous indignation.

You told me that I had been "politely asked" to make a statement about whether alligators are AMPHIBIOUS, because that means science calls them "amphibians".

There are salamanders that are amphibians, but they are not amphibious. They will die if taken out of the water, as some species of salamanders have adults with no lungs and only gills. They are amphibians because they are vertebrates in the amphibian family. The "amphi bios" (two lives) refers to the two stage life cycle, not the aquatic versus land environment.

There are frogs that are amphibians, and they live their entire lives in trees. Never once go down to the ground to lay eggs in water. They complete the entire larval stage of their life cycle while still in the egg, which doesn't hatch until they emerge as air breathing adults.

Soooo.... I guess I'm the bad guy because I was "politely" asked to repeat a sentence about whether or not alligators are "amphibious".

There are MANY species of animals with two stage life cycles. Among them, many have a gilled juvenile stage in water and an air breathing adult stage.

But most amphibious animals are NOT amphibians.

And not all amphibians are amphibious.

All those insects, crustaceans, etc., with a two stage life cycle, air-breathing versus gilled, are NOT vertebrates.

To be an amphibian, an animal has to be a vertebrate.

Alligators are vertebrates, but they are REPTILES. NOT amphibians, despite being amphibious.

And the WINNER is the guy with 23,545 posts, or more than ONE IN FIVE of all posts EVER put up at climate-debate.com

Very, very persistent. Year after year, post after post.

Of course that would mean that IBdaMann is NUMBER TWO!

It's a fact, no matter how you interpret it.

Congratulations! You won the climate-debate.com debate!

What criteria should the judges use to determine the winner of the competition?

What did IBdaMann do to "win"?

He has not yet won the Last Troll Standing contest.

In terms of bandwidth consumption and volume, IBdaMann has fewer posts than Into the Night.

Perhaps the distinction is post QUALITY rather than QUANTITY, because IBdaMann is smaller than Into the Night, if size is what really matters.

If the criteria is the ability to generate a RESPONSE to posts, then the "winner" isn't the one with the most posts, it's the one whose posts get the most replies.

There is no way to determine how many "views" an individual post gets, but it is possible to distinguish which threads are attracting the most views. Perhaps an additional criteria to determine the "winner" would include assessment of whose threads are attracting the most views.

Is climate-debate.com a meritocracy, or do we give rewards on the basis of seniority?

More than 11 years since IBdaMann's first post here, so he has EARNED that seniority entitlement.

However, I suspect that IBdaMann's thinking was more "King of the Hill" competition.

"There can be only ONE!"

Trust me on this one, IBdaMann.

They will NEVER let you be the Last Troll Standing at climate-debate.com, no matter how quiet it seems to get.

This is a teachable moment

When did climate change begin?

"around 5 billion years ago"?

This 5000 million year figure is off by about 800 million years.

The Earth wasn't even assembled as a functioning planet until about 4600 million years ago.

It took at least 400 million years before the Earth cooled enough to even HAVE a climate that could change.

Without liquid water oceans and only the thinnest atmosphere, the kind of precipitation, temperature, wind, and humidity regimes that comprise "climate" don't really exist.

My mom says your "earlier hotter Earth" hypothesis is pretty far fetched.

Okay, you're saying that there were regional climatic regimes of precipitation, wind, humidity, etc. BEFORE there were any bodies of standing liquid water?

It took a while for the Earth to be cool enough to make any kind of solid "rock" material we would recognize today as rocks.

I'm sure that your secret source of information knows more than I ever will.
