Sure, but the landmass Antarctica, for example, was not always at the south pole. Not only is tectonic plate shift observable/measurable (relative movement) but the earth has wobble which shifts the absolute position of the poles.

Historical records indicate that parts of Greenland were not buried under ice in the past while Iceland was. Such a shifting of the ice sheet makes sense to me given the dynamic nature of all of the variables involved.
