The key to global warming is distribution of water and hydrogen. Gas stations in not-cold areas can be connected to pools of water which are refueled by water trucks. Solar energy can be harvested with solar panels on top of the pools. Electricity converts water into hydrogen. Sunlight varys from place to place so gas stations that produce a lot of hydrogen can send it to other struggling stations through these trucks.
In colder areas where there are not much sunlight ordinary fuel like petrol or diesel can still be used.

I don't think it would be so difficult to transport hydrogen - by truck, train or pipeline - that areas with inadequate sunlight would have to continue using fossil fuels. There are a number of simple compounds containing enormous amounts of hydrogen which could be utilized as a safe and efficient carrier mechanism. Sodium borate (borax), for instance, contains 20 atoms of hydrogen in each molecule and is safe enough that you've probably washed your hands with it.

Besides, the task of switching to hydrogen will be enormous, costly and will not happen overnight. There will be a mix of H2 and petrol stations for years - likely decades. Generating hydrogen with solar power is a fine idea and I'm sure it will be popular. Using the surface area of a pool for PV panels is an efficient move. I suspect that sort of thing will be a major segment of the technology individuals use to generate their own fuel at home to support both transportation and domestic power needs. It is also likely that numerous, niche applications will continue to run on fossil fuels for a variety of reasons, but those niches will grow smaller and smaller as time goes by.

hi green..interesting post. can you prove to me that the extra amount of c02 added by man..which accounts for 4% of total co2..to have a warming effect by the science of the greenhouse effect? A controlled study would be great. i haven't seen this. i haven't seen proof of the a radiation from this amount of c02 to cause warming..if I ask this question people will post graphs on the radiation energy from the total amount of co2 and other greenhouse gases but not what we have added since the turn of the century. i believe in the greenhouse effect i just don't see how it proves warming since the added co2

Is there some reason that not one of the five replies you've made to Poster GreenArnie's thread have been on topic?

Interesting idea dude.

There is however a problem with transportation of hydrogen. I mean that still needs to consume energy right?

Burning any type of gas or solid fuel still means that oxygen is burned with it.

Of course it is. How is combustion supposed to occur without oxygen. That is why rocket engines used in space have oxidizers, they carry their own oxygen supply because of absence of oxygen outside the Earth's atmosphere.
