This is sad. A guy in Florida killed his pregnant wife. Didn't he know she wasn't in bed with him?
Didn't he know that pregnant women need to empty their bladder more often? Chances are it will be considered an accidental shooting with no charges filed.
People who own firearms should be required to have extensive training. The life it saves might be their wife's or son-in-law's.

p.s., Blade Runner is an Olympic track athletes (double amputee of his legs) killed his fiance the same way.

Simply put, people should be in control of their emotions before pulling the trigger. This would allow them to assess and respond instead of simply reacting.

If you guys don't get it, neither Oscar or the guy in Florida were concerned about the safety of the woman they were in bed with. The first thing they should have done is let her know that they think that there is an intruder in their residence and to stay there.
This is because if there were an actual intruder, they could position themselves between the intruder and the woman they love.
Also, the guy in Florida has a 2 year old kid, did he check his room? In doing a safety check, they would find out if anyone is up and about. This would be about assessing the situation. Kids do get kidnapped while sleeping.

While training is a good idea, you can't require it.

Education, training, and practice, are all fine, and greatly reduce mistakes. But, there is not one perfect human being among us. We all screw up occasionally. Most people don't wake up, like flipping a switch, instantly alert, and fully aware. We also dream, sometimes nightmares, which tend to mix into reality occasionally, even if for just a few moments. Generally passes, before we sit up, and get out of bed. Consuming large volumes of corn whiskey, can blur the lines, between a dream, and reality, sometimes for days... Main reason why I don't indulge, other than an occasional beer.
