I am aware of how human management practices influence emission or sequestration of greenhouse gases. Very low cost technologies are already proved effective. I am very optimistic that when cooler heads prevail, such technologies will be more broadly implemented.

MEANWHILE, I am very pessimistic about the vast majority of geoengineering schemes that have gotten attention and support. Building giant gizmos, for centralized high-tech, energy intensive removal of gases from the atmosphere will be a regrettable waste of precious resources. Are the poles warming or cooling?

That depends on which layer of the atmosphere you are asking about.

The STRATOSPHERE over the poles is COOLING.

In fact, it get cold enough now in the dead of winter to form these things they call "polar stratospheric clouds". Some of the droplets of nitric acid that condense into these polar stratospheric clouds gets cold enough to freeze into a crystal of nitric acid ice. That heavy thing falls down out of the stratosphere in a process the call "denitrification". Denitrification in soil/water is not the same.
