The KT (Cretaceous-Tertiary boundary appears to be a cooling period in which at least the majority of Dinosaurs disappeared) though the largest members such as Tyrannosaurus and Brachiosaurus appear to have gone extinct perhaps 45 million years before that after a sudden drop in temperature and cooling climate that no doubt changed their food sources too rapidly for them to evolve with it. And for 99% of the Earth's life it has been warmer than present by a considerable margin. The sail of the Dimetrodon has unknown uses. It was probably too thin to carry heat effectively to use as a thermo-control mechanism so its not likely. Remember that it could just as easily been cooled faster than it could absorb the Sun's heat. Perhaps it wa a mating display? Let's remember that absolutely preposterous display of the Peacock. And we have no evidence that there WAS a sail other than impressions since no skin material has ever been found and impressions can be misleading. But the thing which is overwhelmingly clear is that the Earth knows how to take care of itself without any help from man. |
