I do not need to observe anything to design a power supply, an oscillator, a cooling fan, or a robot.

I do not need to observe anything to design a bridge, a car, a locomotive, a ship, or an aircraft.

I do not need to observe anything to write computer code or the algorithms that are used.

I do not need to observe anything to design a theory, test it, or incorporate it into that body of theories we call science.

How can you possibly test a theory without observing anything?

I think you're confusing science with philosophy.

Why do you think scientists perform experiments, build and use telescopes, microscopes, space probes, particle accelerators and the like?

Ugh, you ninja-ed me!

Why do you think that "heavy objects inherently fall faster than light objects" was an accepted statement for so many years? I can make equations until the day I die, but if they don't correspond to reality, that's not science. Science is firmly grounded in reality precisely because it is constantly checking that the theory and the data match up.

No one told the warmizombies that you're not supposed to fudge data to ensure they "match."

The only one here denying anything is you.

First, you deny that the warmizombie himself fudged the data.

Second, you deny the reason he did so.

Third, you deny the observation made by someone who saw them doing it.

Fourth, you deny the science that makes such fudging an issue.

Don't blame Into the Night.

I am the one who occasionally points out how warmizombies were indoctrinated into the religion by people they trusted who ended up bending them over and reaming them, while they begged for more.

I, too, recognize fudged data.

You get bonus points, however, for having a mind completely in the gutter. I got a slight chuckle out of your allusion.

Into the Night, he's not correct. It turns out that all this time Surface Detail has simply misunderstood Planck's.

The root of his misunderstanding is that he's not all that proficient at reading a function. Planck's takes as input a temperature and a wavelength and states the energy level of that emission. Surface Detail somehow read into that function the requirement to emit at all wavelengths.

His claim for gases violating Planck's law is based on gases not emitting at all wavelengths. I don't know what to say to him other than to learn a bit more about functions, and for Planck's specifically, that if a particular gas or other substance doesn't radiate at a particular wavelength then you just don't put that value into Planck's to compute its emission energy.

It's totally obvious from the nature of the function that, for a particular temperature, any wavelength you plug into the equation will give a non-zero spectral radiance (not energy) over a continuous range. How could you possibly think that Planck's law, with just two input variables, could give rise to a spectral radiance curve as complex as that of neon! That's just ridiculous.
