Things We Have Today Will Not Exist: The consequences of climate change Venice Venice is a must-go tourist attraction in Italy. Gorgeous gothic buildings whisper its ancient history. The staggered web-like aqueducts with city above are the muse of artists and poets. People dive into the beauty by walking along the canal, feel like in the romantic movie scenes. Because of the rising sea-level due to global warming, the so-called "Romantic City of Water" might become the "Lethargy City Under the Water" one day, like the new age Atlantis. Maldives The thousands of small islands without humans' overexploitation line up to become like a string of pearls on the southwest of Indian Ocean. This Heaven on Earth is the place where a lot of people like to go to for a vacation. Its beauty of nature, which can help people run away from stress, is what makes this small country so valuable. According to scientific prediction, it may vanish within 80 years; history also shows hundreds of them have sunk. It doesn't only mean that we have no such place for a visit anymore; it also means that its citizens will have no place to live but search for extraterritorial asylum. Statistics of sea-level and global temperature The cause of the rising sea-level is global warming that melts the glaciers and ices the Earth's both poles. The start of global warming is the rising of greenhouse gases such as CO2, CH4... Human industries massively generated these gases. The most dangerous thing is that when the glaciers in Earth's poles are reduced, the reflection of the sunlight decrease as well, and the Earth heat faster. It generates a vicious cycle that it may become out of humanity's control one day. The actions to raise the awareness of environmental protection is necessary and urgent. Are we responsible for that? Some may say that global warming is a normal phenomenon because the climate of Earth changes since the ancient time before human. We are just facing a Warm Period. According to scientists' calculation and speculation, Earth's temperature rose up 0.025-degree Celsius per century during every Warm Period. However, the temperature changing rate is 1-degree Celcius per century today. It was almost 40 times as ancient rate. Other than that, the amount of CO2 generated is out of ordinary too. In the 21st century, fossil fuel makes 35 billion tons of CO2. It is extremely large compared to volcanos, which release only 0.2 billion tons of CO2. The answer lies in the human industry. What should we do? It is not hard to tell that humans are the reasons why the earth warm up. But what directly cause climate change are the excessive CO2 emission and the massive deforestation. As an individual, we are not the one doing all of the destructions. The government should prevent such things happen. But that doesn't mean we have nothing to do to improve this situation. We are the buyer in the market, and we have our rights to choose how we shop and how we use energy. Our behavior and pattern is more potent than the government under the economic system. For example, we can leave all lights off when not using, reduce car driving by taking a bus, use less paper, buy an electric car, buy lesser expensive wooden furniture.... When we see an advertisement or propaganda of environmental protection, we should pay more attention to it because that is what we can do as a normal human. Be more realistic. What we are seeing is the recovery from the Little Ice Age that occurred from between 1700 and 1850. The Earth is a very large place and it takes a long time to both heat up and cool down. For instance. When the Earth enters a real ice age, there is so little mositure in the air to absorb sunlight that virtually all of the sunlight hits the ground with no clouds or air born water vapor to interfere with it. This causes realatively rapid warming - From ice age to very warm (which is not "warm" but normal temperature to you and I) in only about 10-20 thousand years. The cooling however depends mostly upon the chaotic weather patterns slowly bleeding this heat off though sun and Milancovitch cycles. We have a fairly good hold on the amount of CO2 that man produced using fossil fuels since this is held in financial records. The CO2 in the atmosphere isn't growning at nearly the rate calculated by this were it the ONLY source of CO2 being added to the atmosphere. None of the models have been able to go backwards through time and "predict" past temperatures so it should come as no surprise that they are not predicting the present climate. This means ALL of the predictions and models are no good. One of the theories was that the oceans were acting as a CO2 sink. But that fails due to the fact that the oceans are warming on the top 2,000 meters which releases FAR more CO2 than man generates. So we have to look at other things: When CO2 hits around 160 ppm all photosynthesis halts and plants die. At the approxiumate low 200's trees start dying for a variety of reasons - either from lack of CO2 or from the stress making them easy targets for insect infestations that kiill them off. The great forests begin dying off to be replaced by grasslands that require less CO2/food. All of the larger aninals die off. In the meantime many other animals evolve strange requirements such as the Passenger Pigeon which had very low reproduction rates and although the flocks had become huge over centuries, only a small predation on them destroyed these flocks entirely. Let us remember what fossil fuels are: during the time of high CO2 the great forests appeared and as trees and brush died most of it would decay and feed insects returning most of the CO2 to the atmosphere. But part of it would die and be buried before decaying processes could be completed. Depending on the plant material and the bacteria that broke it down while buried it became coal or oil. Replacing some of this stored carbon and the energy that it is contained within returns CO2 to the atmosphere and this has been a Godsend that we were unaware of until recently. This CO2 has caused a major greening of the Earth. Oceans cover 70% of the planet and so they are the chief manner in which to judge what is occurring. Plankton has bloomed like never before in modern history. All of the plants and animals that ocean contains such a krill and the like have bloomed along with this. Fish and ocean living Mammals have benefited greatly from this. Just the Pacific Coast Blue Whale pods contain more of these largest mammals on the Earth than were thought to be in the entire world just 50 years ago. Land plants as well have wild growth. Though we have almost four times as large a population on Earth as we did in 1909 starvation has been largely eliminated. This has also led to one of the greatest periods of peace in history since starvation was the primary driver of mass migrations. So in the first place what we are observing is entirely normal climate change. This is an entirely political and not scientific claim. Dr. Roy Spenser was the director of NASA's weather satellite program that was launched and active for the SAME time in question. I could extend this further but will not. There are many YouTube videos that go into what is really going on with the political corruption of anthropogenic global warming. So you can look them up. Many other you can find through Bing since YouTube has also been corrupted by the leftist movement to control the entire planet through fear.

Flooding occurs during storm surges, like they've always done. It happens more easily now due to the sinking land Venice is sitting on. I doubt we will be losing Venice anytime soon. It'd be nice to know what sort of class the project is for. A first-semester English class or a capstone piece for an environmental science seminar? Something in between? It needs work no matter what sort of class. It appears your first language isn't English and allowances can be made, but how many may depend on the level and type of class. Maybe simplify your writing a little. Your "The staggered web-like aqueducts with the city above..." seems awkward. And it's factually incorrect. Aqueducts (for supplying fresh water) aren't a notable feature of Venice while the canals (seawater) are. Maybe read back your writing to yourself aloud. Sometimes speaking the sentences makes flaws more apparent.
