Berkley Earth Temperature Analysis - possible flaws?
I have discovered that there are several flaws in Berkley Earth's emperature analysis.

In several cases they have made a double counting of Danish weather stations. Go to BEST 's website and find the following weather stations : VESTERVIG and VESTERVIG-1

Here I have copied the descriptions of the two weather stations VESTERVIG and VESTERVIG-1:

BEST: Vestervig-1
This file contains a station summary listing for a temperature
% station in the Berkeley Earth database. This station is identified as:
%
% Berkeley ID#: 13120

VESTERVIG:

% station in the Berkeley Earth database. This station is identified as:
%
% Berkeley ID#: 154597
% Primary Name: VESTERVIG
% Record Type: TAVG

BEST perceives those stations as different since they have different geographical coordinates and are read from different sources. Of course there migh be a bug in the geographical coordinates or there are actually two separate weather stations.

If we believe in the geographical coordinates specified ,VESTERVIG-1 is in the middle of a field and VESTERVIG located right in town!

The geographic coordinates for Vestervig is ( 56.7637N , 8.3206E ) .

There is only one weather station at Vestervig placed in the middel of the town.

DMI's geographical coordinates of Danish weather stations can be found here DMI Technical Report 13-10 page 12 and 13.

Using BEST's google map one can find candidates for dobbled counting.

I also suspect double counting of other Danish weather stations : Nordby, Hammer Odde Fyr and Due Odde,.....

I do think it is a general problem in BEST's analysis of temperature data.

On the BEST homepage there is another flaws:

When you search for "Denmark", there will be two cases:

DENMARK
DENMARK(EUROPE)

Flaw nr. 1.
The first DENMARK is a city in USA and not a Country or State. This means a wrong classification.

Flaw nr.2.
Both DENMARK's have the same nearby city: Copenhagen, Malmø, Århus.
This is not correct.

These flaws are only formal flaws and might not affect the temperature estimation al all.

The two Best Vestervig Stations differs in respect of span of years and in temperatures as well. They allso differs from the official Danish temperatures for Vestervig.

If there are many of these artificial weather stations with similar data, which are close, but not identical data, questions might be asked about the validity af BEST's results.

The cause for the existence of the artificial stations might come from reading data from several sources with differences in the geographical coordinates and differences in data. It is a problem not created by Best, but by the providers of temperature data.

It might be discussed who is responsible for checking the data before they are used, however I think it must be the responsibilty of BEST to do it.

The big question:

Does the problem of artificial weather stations also exist in other temperature reconstructions ? I do not know !

This is a case with two weather stations with apparently the same geographical coordinates!

The coordinates of Maribo (57.752N,11.4935E) and the distance between the two places is 9250 meter.

The two weather stations have different coordinates and the same elevation and have overlapping reporting period.

The data for two stations are read from different sources.

Here is the Google Map of the two stations:

It is obvious that the coordinates are wrong for FLORA AP.

The following graphs shows the data plotted:

To my judgement, the stations are identical and the deviations are caused by reading from two sources.
